Western medicine has failed us by not addressing the root causes and indeed, making this worse by covering up symptoms of the body/mind of imbalance. Balance is the key to health.
Western medicine advertises Health Care and looks for symptoms that fit a disease so they can write you a prescription that often has more side effects than the original 'complaint' . People go to the doctor when they're not feeling well. The symptom is not addressed and more imbalances could follow. Too many imbalances and we fall down.
As I mentioned above, one root is unexpressed emotion. Years ago when I was depressed, I went to a therapist who asked me "What are you depressing?" and I knew immediately that I was depressing anger. When I began to express my anger, I felt better. How we learn to express anger is one of the most important things to learn for close relationships with those you love. We are spiritual beings first, living in a body. Most of the teachings of religion are about spiritual laws of life. The highest principle is the unity of our Diversity. United we stand, divided we fall, E Pluribus Unium- out of One many.
When we are angry and don't express it, we often end up 'holding that against the other person' and that is NOT wise. That breaks the unseen connection between us and all it takes is being honest and sharing your emotions. It is being called emotional intelligence or competency and builds relationships rather than ending them.
Let's say you've been waiting for a friend to go to a movie and she's late, so late that you miss the first 30 minutes of the movie. When she arrives you are pissed! The best thing to say is " Hey, Jane, I'm really angry-we've missed the movie. I value our friendship and don't want to talk about it until I calm down. Would it be ok with you if we talk about it later? I want some kind of agreement that you will not let this happen again. Ok?"
As Einstein put it, our reality is a dynamic web of interconnection. Subatomic particles have no meaning in isolation, only in relationship with everything else. Our cells communicate with one another and we are ill when our cells are out of synch.
The definition of health is as follows: ~Health is a state of perfect subatomic communication and ill health is a state where communication breaks down. We are ill when our cells do not receive the nourishment they need to send to the body. ~Health is also defined as freedom, defined at 1) full range of joint motion without pain and the ability to sing or dance without caring what anybody thinks of your singing and dancing. 2) Resiliency and the ability to adapt to the inevitable changes of life. ~When health is absent, wisdom cannot reveal itself, art cannot manifest, strength cannot be exerted, wealth become useless and reason is powerless. Heraclitus,.circa 300 BC
The tree of health, "The root of health is in the brain. The trunk is emotion. The branches and leaves are the body. The flower of health blooms when all parts work as one.
As the 12 Step prayer goes: God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
The difference between western medicine and the alternatives (Chinese medicine, Ayurveda- the Science of Life) is the alternative have stood the test of time (3000+ years) and both deal with the energy (the chi) of the body, rather than symptoms.
The energy cannot be seen, although felt by some. A heart attack is often preceded by a severe pain down the left arm, which is the heart meridian. Every symptom is probably a blockage of the vital flow, with rare exceptions. Drugs are expensive in more ways than one and the drug companies are pocketing huge profits.
What I suggest is six weeks of classes or one on one phone consultation or email exchange. This is to encourage and inspire and answer questions. Part of that will include setting goals for success and will also mean reading. You will learn your unique 'dosha' which means things that go out of whack! And the healthiest ways to eat, sleep and exercise according to your body's energy.
Depending on several factors, six weeks will be enough. If not, I am available by phone or email. Depending on the situation and what is needed, that can be free or we can reach an agreement for cost. Other possible costs could be classes of Yoga, Tai Chi, massage, or acupuncture treatments.
When the vitality is flowing that is true prevention. Another factor is that germs only cause dis-ease when the immune system is not functioning. The immune system stops functioning when the vitality is blocked. |
